Collections and hobbies

Sevillano liked to collect some objects: among them the most extensive, a collection of wooden pipes. Also old keys and iron plates, ceramics such as jugs, plates and vases, an extensive collection of books on different themes and classical music records. He enjoyed reading about enigmas, esoteric and paranormal topics, so he often bought metaphysical books and magazines like Más Allá. Sevillano also maintained a gallery of works by other artists, including names such as Manuel Colmeiro, Laxeiro or Maside.

The carpentry workshop

A few years before his death, Sevillano moved to a larger home with the intention of designing furniture. For which he invested in setting up a joinery and carpentry workshop that was located in a large gallery at the back of the house, with large windows and balconies that overlooked an interior garden.

A book of poems dedicated by his father

Sevillano was the first-born son of the family, so it is not surprising that his father, as a first-time writer, dedicated a book to him with poems titled «Terra Liñar«, in English «Linen Land«. Title that refers to the first poem of the book where he compares the flowery fields of blue linen, with the color of his son’s eyes. Many of the poems in the book are narratives of the occurrences and pranks that Sevillano did as a child. Poem number one reads thus:

My child has an inaccessible flax field in his eyes, a distant and restless blue, crowded by interrogations. His miraculous mirror, captures all living things from a kind world, full of thirst. Short and fast, everything is humanized, specific, tangible upon the consultation.

This tree, that cloud What are their names? Why? Why does the fountain gush, why is that white lamb jumping?

In everything wonder, a trembling sensitivity, like a leaf od dawn, in the maiden breeze of spring.

And deep in the chest, what a sweet pain, what a soft and exquisite harm previously unknown. What a longing to kiss that inaccesible flax field.

Rest in the sea he fell in love

One of Sevillano’s last wishes was to be cremated. His ashes were scattered from a boat by his family, on the shores of the La Guajira Peninsula in the Caribbean Sea.

Where to see or acquire work by Sevillano

There are numerous private collectors who acquired paintings during Sevillano’s lifetime and after his death, and who have sometimes put them up for sale on the market. We strongly recommend the public that if you want to buy or sell any piece, go to recognized art galleries to avoid scams. There are some dealers or auction houses that, in order to make a profit and obtain more profit, take advantage of sellers who do not know the real value and the trajectory of the artist; just as there have been buyers who have paid high sums for fakes. Likewise, we inform you that no website has the authority to establish quotes, since most sales are made privately in Art Galleries under strict confidentiality: therefore, the estimates that may be on the internet are not an authentic reflection of the value of the works. Many of these web pages base their business on the sale of reports to their subscribers. If you have doubts or want to ensure the authenticity of a work or suspect that it may have been obtained illegally, you can contact us through the form on this website.
